Garibaldi's innovation new dual zone heated gloves have just arrived into stock, to save us from frostbitten fingers while we are freezing.
What is a dual zone glove? I hear you ask, good question, so let me explain:
Most heated gloves have the heating elements across the back of the hand, as that is where the wind hits us while we ride and therefore the cause of cold hands. The Sottozero in additional has heating elements across its palm! To keep our hands completely toasty on the coldest of days, Garibaldi say they are "extreme weather" gloves, I said to them welcome to English winters!
The heating elements are made from silicone coated carbon cables, for maximum heat distribution and to make breaking the cables near impossible.
The two zones are switchable; you can have both sides of the glove on, or just the back or just the palm, and there are three heat setting levels to choose from too.
How warm do they get? Another good question, so I measured them with a heat probe. On max with both zones active, I recorded 55 degrees C temperature.
How are they powered? Just keep throwing these great questions at us.. The gloves come with 3000 MaH batteries and again I timed how long they lasted, at max heat and max zones, they lasted 2 hours.
There is also the option to have them tethered directly to the bike battery with an optional cable, for those spending many hours in the saddle and needing toasty pinkies..
Why heat the palm if the cold hits the back of the hands? Sometimes its just not enough and we feel the cold on the palm. Some folks may choose to add heated grips to combat this. But if you have several bikes, stick your hands up if thats you 🙋🏻♂️, it gets expensive sticking heated grips on every bike, so why not just heat the glove palm instead and use them on any bike, even ones you haven't even bought yet!
Are they thickly padded and remove all sensation of holding the bars and throttle? Oooh, probably one of the best yet asked. My pet hate! In a word NO, but let me explain why. They are lined on the back of the hand with 200g of DuPont's ComforMax thermal insulation, this is renowned for being one of the thinnest and warmest thermal insulation layers available. On the all important palm they are lined with 40g of Thinsulate, equally thin and warm, but meaning when you hold the grips you lose very little, if any, dexterity of the controls from say a summer pair of gloves. Retaining the full sensation for the fingers on the controls.
What else is good about them? Well they are also lined with a Hipora waterproof membrane, come with Nappa Goat Skin leather to the palm, 450D Cordura textile fabric to the back of the hand for abrasion protection, leather covered soft knuckle armour, visor wiper on index finger and touchscreen compatible finger tips.
How comfortable are they? Well, unlike most gloves, they are seamless! As they use BMB's McFit glove fitment system, so are supremely comfortable. But don't take our word for it, come down and try them on...
